Biography
Sky In Land were founded in April 2004 from an idea of the guitarist and singer Carmelo Sgroi, the drummer Andrea Tilenni and the bass Ignazio Cannavò. In June 2004 the band records its first EP, “Introspection”. During the summer, the band performs in different music festivals. In 2005 Sky In Land performs at “Fuoricorso”, event organized by University of Catania, sharing the stage with artists like Uzeda, Battles and Jerica’s. The same year in july, the drummer Andrea Tilenni leaves the band. He will be replaced by Andrea Sturiale, student at the Drumtech of London. In September 2005, the band with the new member records the single “Through The Desert”, written by Carmelo Sgroi during a trip through the australian desert. In November 2005 they are on the stage of M.E.I. at Faenza. During the first months of 2006 the band makes the video for “Inside The Tunnel”, track extracted from the E.P. “Introspection”.
On May 2006 they exhibit in a short tour in England.
On August 2006 the drummer Andrea Sturiale leaves the band, replaced by Claudio La Rosa.
During the same month the band performs a show at “Marina di Palma Rock Contest”, climbing up to the finals.
On September 2006 the band is a guest at the finals of “The Look Of The Year”, in Taormina. Later on runs for qualification on “Musicateneo” in Catania.
On July 2007 they record their first album “Through The Desert” with the producer Alessandro Paolucci and the sound engineer Alessandro Sportelli, at Westlink Studios in Cascina (Prozac +, Vanilla Sky). The album is released on April 7th 2008 in Italy and May 5th in UK and worldwide, labeled UK Division.
The thematics faced in the text of the songs by Carmelo Sgroi are severals: from social and personal problems to urban experiences based on memories from the past.
The music is arranged by the band. Every member contributes to the identity of each track with his own background. The music is an alternative rock, recalling grunge and experimental.
